MAVLink Support Package

MAVLink (Micro Air Vehicle Link) is a lightweight communication protocol that is used in unmanned systems: autopilots (ArduPilot, PX4), drones and ground control stations (GCS) exchange telemetry, commands and sensor data via it.

The MAVLink support package provides the work Engee with MAVLink devices using library blocks MAVLink and program control functions. The package uses a client program Engee.Integrations and allows you to connect to MAVLink devices via TCP or UDP, send and receive MAVLink messages.

The library and functions support messages in two MAVLink dialects — common and ardupilotmega. Descriptions of messages and their fields are given in the official MAVLink documentation (common, ardupilotmega), and the full list of supported messages with fields and types is on the page MAVLink Messages.

Requirements

  • A MAVLink device accessible over the network: a real autopilot, a simulator (SITL), or a ground control station.

  • The IP address and port of the device. By default value in library blocks — 127.0.0.1:14551 (the standard port to which MAVProxy and ArduPilot SITL simulators broadcast telemetry).

For more information, see MAVLink.

Quick start

  1. Install or update the Engee subsystem.Integration as shown in article.

  2. Prepare the MAVLink message source and find out its IP address and port (for example, run the ArduPilot SITL simulator with MAVProxy on the port 14551).

  3. Now you can use blocks from the library MAVLink or software control functions MAVLink software management.
