Fundamentals of Statistics course

Description

The Statistics course is devoted to solving the most important problems of mathematical statistics in Engee. You will learn how to import tabular data from files into Engee, pre-process them, plot various types of graphs based on tabular data, calculate numerical characteristics of a sample, create realisations of a normally distributed random variable, select its parameters and test statistical hypotheses about parameters and distribution type.

Each chapter contains brief theoretical information, practical examples and tasks for independent fulfilment.

Knowledge Requirements: Completion of the course Welcome to Engee course.

Total course time: ~2 hours.

Course Programme

Import and data preparation.

Loading tabular data into Engee from a file, creating categorical variables, creating new tables based on the original table according to certain criteria are studied.

Data visualisation.

We study the construction of different types of graphs on tabular data: dot plot, histogram and dot histogram.

Numerical characteristics of a sample.

Numerical characteristics of the sample are studied: arithmetic mean, median, standard deviation, spread, interquartile range, skewness and kurtosis.

Normal distribution.

The probability density and distribution function, the normal distribution, creating and visualising a normally distributed random variable and selecting parameters of the normal distribution are studied.

Hypothesis testing.

The basic concepts of statistical hypothesis testing, testing the hypotheses of equality of mean and equality of variance for two normally distributed samples and testing the hypothesis of normal distribution of the sample are studied.
