Mach Number Sensor (G)

Measurement of the Mach number of an internal gas flow.

mach number sensor g

Description

The Mach Number Sensor (G) unit is an ideal sensor that measures the Mach number of a gas flow. The Mach number is calculated as the ratio of the gas velocity to the local speed of sound and is a measure of the effect of the compressibility of the gas in the channel. The Mach number is defined as follows:

,

where

  • - mass flow rate;

  • - density;

  • - local speed of sound propagation;

  • - cross-sectional area of the flow path, which is specified with the parameter Area of flow path.

These values depend on the block settings Gas Properties (G). When the flow passes from port A to port B, the block outputs the Mach number of the flow in port Mach. The limit value of the Mach number in the block is 1. Using this block does not affect the flow.

Ports

Output

Mach - value of Mach number, dimensionless
scalar

Output port of the measured Mach number value.

Non-directional

A - sensor input
gas

Non-directional port corresponding to the sensor input. The flow rate is positive if gas flows from port A to port B.

B is the sensor output
gas

Non-directional port corresponding to the sensor input. The flow rate is positive if gas flows from port A to port B.

Parameters

Area of flow path - cross-sectional area of flow through the sensor
`0.01 m² (by default)

Cross-sectional area of flow through the sensor.
