Flow Rate Sensor (MA)

Measurement of mass, volume and energy flow in a wet air network.

flow rate sensor (ma)

Description

The Flow Rate Sensor (MA) unit is an ideal sensor that measures mass flow rate, energy flow rate and volumetric flow rate in a humid air network. Pressure, temperature, specific humidity or mass fraction of impurity gases do not change on the sensor.

The unit is connected in series with the component to be measured.

The mutual orientation of the ports A and B sets the sign of the measurement. The sign is positive if the flow is from port A to port B and vice versa.

Switching the connections to the ports reverses the sign of the measurement.

Five ports are available to output measurement data:

  • Port M outputs mass flow rate.

  • The V port outputs the volumetric flow rate.

  • Port φ outputs the energy flow rate.

  • Port Mw outputs the mass flow rate of water vapour.

  • Port Mg outputs the mass flow rate of impure gases.

These ports are displayed on the unit icon depending on the unit settings. Adjust the unit settings to display only those ports that are required for measurements in a particular model.

Ports

Output

M - mass flow rate, kg/sec
scalar

Output port for mass flow measurement.

Dependencies

To use this port, select the Mass flow rate checkbox.

V - volumetric flow rate, m³/sec
scalar

Output port for volumetric flow rate measurement.

Dependencies

To use this port, select the Volumetric flow rate checkbox.

φ - energy consumption, W
scalar

Output port for measuring energy consumption.

Dependencies

To use this port, select the Energy flow rate checkbox.

Mw - mass flow rate of water vapour, kg/sec
scalar

Output port for measuring the mass flow rate of water vapour.

Dependencies

To use this port, select the Water vapour mass flow rate checkbox.

Mg - mass flow rate of impurity gases, kg/sec
scalar

Output port for measuring the mass flow rate of impurity gases.

Dependencies

To use this port, select the Trace gas mass flow rate checkbox.

Non-directional

A - sensor input
`humid air

Moist air port, corresponds to the sensor inlet. The flow rate is positive if air flows from port A to port B.

B is the sensor inlet
`humid air

Moist air port, corresponds to the sensor input. The flow rate is positive if air flows from port A to port B.

Parameters

Mass flow rate - visibility of the mass flow rate output port
On (by default) | Off

The sensor measures the mass flow rate.

Checking this box opens the M output port.

Volumetric flow rate - visibility of the output port for volumetric flow rate measurement
off (by default) | on

Select this checkbox to have the sensor measure volumetric flow rate.

Checking this box opens the V output port.

Volumetric flow measurement conditions - conditions for volumetric flow measurement
Actual conditions (By default) | Standard conditions.

Select whether the sensor calculates volumetric flow under actual operating conditions or under standard pressure, temperature, and relative humidity:

  • `Actual conditions' - the sensor calculates the volumetric flow rate using the density of moist air under actual system conditions.

  • `Standard conditions' - the sensor calculates the volumetric flow rate using the density of moist air under standard conditions. If this option is selected, additional parameters are available to set standard pressure, temperature and relative humidity.

Dependencies

To use this option, select the Volumetric flow rate checkbox.

Standard pressure - Humid air pressure at standard conditions
`0.101325 MPa (by default).

Humid air pressure at standard conditions.

Dependencies

Used when Volumetric flow measurement conditions is set to Standard conditions.

Standard Temperature is the wet air temperature under standard conditions
20degC (By default).

Humid air temperature under standard conditions.

Dependencies

Used when Volumetric flow measurement conditions is set to Standard conditions.

Standard relative humidity - relative humidity under standard conditions
0.65 (By default).

Relative humidity at standard conditions.

Dependencies

Used when Volumetric flow measurement conditions is set to Standard conditions.

Energy flow rate - visibility of the output port for energy flow measurement
enabled (By default) | `disabled

Select this checkbox to enable energy flow rate measurement.

Selecting this check box opens the φ output port.

Water vapor mass flow rate - visibility of the output port for water vapour mass flow rate measurement
off (by default) | on.

Select this check box to enable water vapour mass flow rate measurement.

Selecting this check box opens the Mw output port.

Trace gas mass flow rate - visibility of the output port for measuring the mass flow rate of impure gases.
disabled (by default) | enabled.

Select this check box to enable impurity gas mass flow rate measurement.

Selecting this checkbox opens the Mg output port.
