Root MUSIC DOA

Description

System object EngeePhased.RootMUSICEstimator evaluates the direction of arrival (direction of arrival, DOA) of a given number of narrowband signals incident on a homogeneous linear antenna array (ULA) or a homogeneous circular antenna array (UCA) using the root multiple signal classification method (root multiple signal classification, Root MUSIC).

To evaluate the DOA, follow these steps:

  1. Create an object EngeePhased.RootMUSICEstimator and set its properties.

  2. Call an object with arguments as if it were a function.

To learn more about how to work with system objects, see Engee System Objects.

Syntax

Creation

  • estim = EngeePhased.RootMUSICEstimator() — creates a system object that evaluates the direction of arrival of the signal using the Root MUSIC method applied to a uniform linear phased array (ULA) or uniform circular phased array (UCA). When using the UCA usage, the method converts the input phased antenna array into an ULA-like one using the phase mode excitation algorithm [2].

  • estim = EngeePhased.RootMUSICEstimator(Name=Value) — creates a system object that evaluates the direction of arrival of the signal using the Root MUSIC method, with the specified properties in the form of a pair Name=Value, where Name — the name of the property, and Value — appropriate value. You can specify multiple pairs «name-value» the order of the pairs does not matter. Unspecified properties retain their by default values.

Usage

  • Ang = estim(X) — Evaluates the DOA of the X signal using the root-MUSIC usage method. This syntax applies only when for a property SensorArray set value EngeePhased.ULA.

  • Ang = estim(X,ElAng) — Additionally uses the estimated angles of the place ElAng signals. This syntax applies only when for a property SensorArray set value EngeePhased.UCA.

Arguments

Input arguments

X — input signal

+ the complex matrix P on Q

Details

The input signal, given as a complex matrix on , where — the number of elements in the antenna array, and — number of channels.

Типы данных

Float32, Float64

Support for complex numbers

Yes

ElAng — seat angle

+ scalar from −90° to 90°

Details

The angle of the place, set as a scalar in the range from −90° before 90° which applies to all signals. The location angles for all signals should be the same, as required by the phase mode excitation algorithm.

The units of measurement are degrees.

Типы данных

Float32, Float64

Output arguments

Ang — calculated directions of arrival of the signal

+ A row vector of Q elements

Details

The calculated DOA of the signal, returned as a real-row vector of calculated angles relative to the normal of the antenna array.

The units of measurement are degrees.

Properties

# NumSignalsMethod — method for estimating the number of signals
String

Details

A method for estimating the number of signals, given as "AIC" (by default) or "MDL". In "AIC" the Akaike information criterion is used, and in "MDL" — the criterion of the minimum length of the description.

Dependencies

To use this property, set the NumSignalsSource property to "Auto".

# PropagationSpeed — signal propagation speed
Real number

Details

The propagation velocity of the signal, given as a positive scalar.

Units of measurement — m/s.

By default — 3e8.

# OperatingFrequency — Operating frequency
Real number

Details

The operating frequency specified as a positive scalar.

Units of measurement — Hz.

By default — 3e8.

# NumSignalsSource — expected number of incoming signals
String

Details

The expected number of incoming signals, given as "Auto" or "Property".

If this property is set to "Auto", the number of signals is estimated by the method specified in the property NumSignalsMethod.

If this property is set to "Property", the number of signals is set in the NumSignals property.

# ForwardBackwardAveraging — performing forward-backward averaging
Logical

Details

Performing forward-backward averaging, given as false (by default) or true

Set the ForwardBackwardAveraging property to true to enable forward-backward averaging, which estimates the covariance matrix for antenna array elements with a conjugately symmetric variety of antenna arrays.

# SpatialSmoothing — the number of averages in spatial smoothing
Real number

Details

The averaging number used by spatial smoothing to estimate the covariance matrix, given as a positive integer. Each additional smoothing value handles one additional coherent source, but reduces the effective number of elements by one. The maximum value of this property is . For ULA — this is the number of sensors. For UCA — this is the size of the internal structure of the antenna array, similar to ULA, determined by the method of excitation of phase modes.

By default 0 indicates that spatial smoothing is not used.

# SensorArray — antenna array object

Details

Antenna array specified as a system object EngeePhased.ULA or EngeePhased.UCA.

Dependencies

When using an object EngeePhased.UCA the ArrayNormal property can only be set to "z".

# NumSignals — number of incoming signals
Real number

Details

The number of signals specified as a positive integer. The number of signals must be less than the number of elements in the array specified in the SensorArray property. You can specify this property with single or double precision.

Dependencies

To use this property, set the NumSignalsSource property to "Property".
