EngeePhased.CosineAntennaElement

The cosine antenna.

Library

EngeePhased

Description

System object EngeePhased.CosineAntennaElement simulates an antenna with a cosine radiation pattern. The main axis of the radiation pattern corresponds to 0° by azimuth angle and 0° by the angle of the position in the antenna coordinate system. When an element is placed in a linear antenna array, the main axis of the radiation pattern is located normal to the axis of the array (see, for example, EngeePhased.ULA). When the element is placed in a rectangular antenna array, the main axis of the radiation pattern is located normal to the array (see, for example, EngeePhased.URA).

This antenna element does not support polarization.

To create and use an antenna with a Gaussian radiation pattern, follow these steps:

  1. Create an object EngeePhased.CosineAntennaElement and set its properties.

  2. Call the object with arguments as if it were a function.

To learn more about how to work with system objects, see Engee System Objects.

Syntax

Creation

  • antenna = EngeePhased.CosineAntennaElement() — creates a cosine antenna with default property values. This object models an antenna element, the radiation pattern of which is a cosine function raised to non-negative degrees in azimuthal angle and elevation angle.

  • antenna = EngeePhased.CosineAntennaElement(Name=Value) — creates a cosine antenna with specified properties in the form of a pair Name=Value, where Name — the name of the property, and Value — the appropriate value. You can specify multiple pairs «name-value» the order of the pairs does not matter. Unspecified properties retain their default values.

Using

  • RESP = antenna(FREQ,ANG) — returns the antenna radiation pattern RESP at the operating frequencies FREQ in the directions ANG.

Arguments

Input arguments

FREQ — the operating frequencies of the antenna element

+ scalar | vector is a string of length L

Details

Antenna operating frequencies, specified as a real positive scalar or a real vector string of length containing positive numbers.

Typical values are in the range FrequencyRange. Otherwise, the element does not respond and returns it as −Inf.

The units of measurement are Hz.

ANG — azimuth angle and angle of the radiation pattern

+ vector is a string of length M | the 2 by M matrix

Details

The directions of the radiation pattern, specified as a real vector, are a string of length or a real matrix on .

If ANG is a matrix, then each column defines a direction in the form [azimuth; elevation]. The azimuth angle should be in the range of −180° before 180° inclusive. The angle of the seat should be in the range of −180° before 180° inclusive.

If ANG is a string vector, each element sets the azimuth angle of the direction. In this case, the corresponding seat angle is assumed to be 0°.

The units of measurement are degrees.

For more information about the azimuth angle and the location angle, see Azimuthal angles and location angles.

Output arguments

RESP — antenna pattern

+ the complex matrix M on L

Details

The radiation pattern of the antenna element, returned as a complex matrix on , where — the number of angles specified in ANG, — the number of frequencies specified in FREQ.

Features

# FrequencyRange — operating frequency range

+ [0.0 1.0e20] (by default) | A non-negative real vector is a 1 by 2 row

Details

The operating frequency range of the antenna, set as a non-negative real vector on in the format [LowerBound HigherBound]. The antenna element does not have a radiation pattern outside the specified frequency range.

The units of measurement are Hz.

# CosinePower —

the cosine index
[1.5 1.5] (by default) | a non-negative scalar | a non-negative, 1-by-2 real vector

Details

The value of the degrees to which cosines are raised to construct a cosine directional pattern, given as a non-negative scalar or a non-negative real vector on .

If CosinePower is a scalar, then the cosine radiation pattern along the azimuthal angle and the angle of the location will have the same cosine index.

If you set CosinePower as a vector on , then the first element is an indicator of the cosine of the radiation pattern along the azimuthal angle, and the second is an indicator of the angle of the location.

Cosine antenna pattern

Details

An object EngeePhased.CosineAntennaElement returns the radiation pattern of the field of the cosine element of the antenna:

where

  • — azimuth angle;

  • — seat angle;

  • and — indicators of cosine in azimuthal angle and elevation, real numbers greater than or equal to zero.

The radiation pattern is determined for azimuthal angles and elevation angles from −90° before 90° inclusive and always positive. There is no directional pattern on the back of the cosine antenna. The radiation pattern of the cosine antenna reaches its maximum value 1 at azimuthal angle 0° and the corner of the place 0°. Large values of the cosine index narrow the radiation pattern of the element and increase the directional coefficient.

The power radiation pattern is a square of the field radiation pattern:
