Description

The Flow Rate Sensor (IL) unit is an ideal sensor that measures mass and volume flow rates in an isothermal liquid network. The pressure and temperature of the fluid in the sensor do not change.

The unit must be connected to the network in series.

The unit icon changes depending on the value of the Mass flow rate and Volumetric flow rate parameters.

Ports A and B correspond to the sensor input and output. The orientation of ports A and B with respect to the direction of flow determines the sign of the measurement: it is positive if the flow is from port A to port B and vice versa.

Ports M and V output the mass and volume flow rates through the sensor, respectively.

The volumetric flow rate is calculated from the mass flow rate as follows:

ρ

where:

  • - volumetric flow rate.

  • - is the measured mass flow rate.

  • ρ - the density value of the liquid mixture in ports A or B. There is no pressure difference at the sensor, so the densities at ports A and B are identical. The equations used to calculate the density of the fluid mixture depend on the isothermal liquid model selected.

Ports

Output

M - mass flow rate, kg/sec
scalar

Output port of the mass flow rate signal.

Dependencies

To use this port, select the Mass flow rate checkbox.

V - volumetric flow rate, m³/sec
scalar

Output port of the volumetric flow rate signal.

Dependencies

To use this port, select the Volumetric flow rate checkbox.

Non-directional

A - sensor input
isothermal liquid

The isothermal liquid port corresponds to the sensor input. The flow rate is positive if the liquid flows from port A to port B.

B is the sensor output
isothermal liquid

The isothermal liquid port corresponds to the sensor output. The flow rate is positive if the liquid flows from port A to port B.

Parameters

Mass flow rate - visibility of the mass flow rate output port
On (by default) | Off

Whether the sensor is measuring mass flow rate.

Checking this box opens the M output port.

Volumetric flow rate - visibility of the output port for volumetric flow rate measurement
off (by default) | on

Whether the sensor is measuring volumetric flow rate.

Checking this box opens the V output port.
