Description

Block Permanent Magnet simulates a magnet that passively generates a magnetic field. Use this unit to simulate a magnet that does not magnetize or demagnetize. The magnetic field of a permanent magnet has a magnetic induction that increases linearly with increasing strength of the external magnetic field.

Block Permanent Magnet equivalent to parallel connected blocks Magnetic Flux Sensor and Reluctance, or series - connected blocks Constant Magnetomotive Force Source and Reluctance.

Use the block Permanent Magnet to parameterize the magnet based on the manufacturer’s specifications for residual magnetic induction, magnetic permeability or coercive force.

The equations

If per block Permanent Magnet When an external magnetic field is applied, the unit approximates magnetic induction the resulting magnetic field using one of these linear relationships:

where

  • — the magnetic flux density after removing the external magnetic field corresponds to the parameter Remanent flux density of magnet;

  • — the relative magnetic permeability of the material, corresponds to the parameter Relative magnetic permeability of material;

  • — magnetic permeability in vacuum;

  • — the strength of the external magnetic field;

  • — the coercive force of the magnet, corresponds to the parameter Coercivity of magnet.

Specify which parameters the block uses to define a linear equation using the parameter Remanent field parameterization.

The linear relationship is valid only when the magnet is not magnetized or demagnetized. The unit operates in the second quadrant of the magnetization curve :

  • ;

  • .

Magnetic flux passing through a magnet is defined as:

where — parameter value Cross-sectional area.

Magnetomotive force ( ) in the block is defined as:

where — parameter value Length of magnet.

Meaning the block defines it as:

,

where and — the north and south terminals of the permanent magnet, respectively. The flow is positive when it passes through the device from the north to the south terminal.

Variables

Use the parameter group Initial Targets to set the priority and initial target values for the block parameter variables before modeling. For more information, see Configuring physical blocks using target values.
