Z (CE)

The complex impedance model.

blockType: SubSystem

Path in the library:

/RF/Circuit Envelope/Elements/Z (CE)

Description

Block Z (CE) implements the ratio for each simulation frequency , where

  • — the complex value of the impedance at a given simulation frequency;

  • — voltage at the terminals of the element at a time ;

  • — current through the element at a time .

The current and voltage signals of the envelope circuit include common-mode ( ) and quadrature ( ) components at each frequency .

Frequency-dependent impedance usually cannot be implemented as a physical circuit, such as an RLC circuit. However, you can use the block Z (CE) for modeling non-physical behavior such as frequency-independent negative capacitance or negative inductance. This block can also be used to set resonant frequency offsets in filtering circuits.

Parameters

Parameters

# Impedance type — frequency dependence
Frequency independent | Frequency dependent

Details

The frequency dependence of the impedance, given as Frequency independent or Frequency dependent.

Set the value Frequency independent to apply the same impedance for all frequencies. Set the value Frequency dependent to apply the impedance as a piecewise linear function.

Values

# Complex impedance, Ohm — the value of the impedance

Details

The impedance value specified as a scalar complex number in ohms or as a vector of complex numbers in which each element is measured in ohms.

If for the parameter Impedance type the value is set Frequency independent The impedance is a scalar complex number applied to all frequencies of the simulation. If for the parameter Impedance type the value is set Frequency dependent, the impedance is a vector of complex numbers . This vector is interpolated linearly for all simulation frequencies.

# Frequency, Hz — frequency values for frequency-dependent impedance

Details

Frequency values for frequency-dependent impedance, specified as a non-negative scalar in Hz or a non-negative vector in which each element is measured in Hz.

A vector of non-negative frequencies can be set for this parameter. . Couples define a piecewise linear function , which is linearly interpolated for the simulation frequencies. For values outside the range, constant extrapolation is performed.

To use this parameter, set for the parameter Impedance type meaning Frequency dependent.
