Modelling a circuit breaker¶
This example demonstrates the modelling of a circuit breaker. The electromechanical circuit breaker mechanism is approximated by a first order time constant and it is assumed that the mechanical force is proportional to the load current. This simple representation is suitable for use in a larger holistic system model. When a voltage of 20 V is applied, a current greater than the rated current of the circuit breaker occurs for one second and hence the circuit breaker trips. Then after three seconds, the reset button is pressed and the voltage rises. The circuit breaker then trips just above the rated current of the circuit breaker.
